Datatrial was founded as a technology company in 1999 with a focus on developing software that would improve the clinical research process.

With over 19 years of experience building and deploying software through our proprietary Electronic Data Capture system nowEDC we had a vision around the next-generation Clinical Cloud solution offering, focusing on end-to-end access to information in order to enhance visibility and speed up decision-making for our users. Our vision was to provide a suite of simple, intuitive and integrated cloud services and applications to the healthcare industry. Our goal today is to allow our customers to realise the benefits of a consistent, secure and scaleable environment in which to organise and document their clinical trials working more efficiently and allowing quicker decision making reducing healthcare/trial expenditure. That is why we developed Nucleus!

It is always important to remember why you started to develop a product in the first place and continue to make enhancements to increase customer engagement and customer experience. Here at Datatrial we continually ask our customers for feedback, whether it is positive or negative. This allows us to identify things we are doing well but more importantly areas for improvement- no matter how well you are doing as a company, there is always room for improvement.

What do our customers say about Nucleus?

Datatrial is included in three Advanced Therapies Treatment Centres (ATTC) established throughout the UK and funded by Innovate UK as part of the Industrial Strategies Challenge Fund, Northern Alliance Advanced Therapies Treatment Centre (NAATTC), iMATCH and Midland-Wales. Our role is to provide an informatics backbone to facilitate information sharing. Delivery of these innovative therapies to patients involves a complex supply chain coupled with extensive data collection expectations and therefore Nucleus is used as the central hub for information from multiple sources.

Catherine van Niekerk, NAATTC Project Manager said her favourite thing about Nucleus is ‘’the simplicity of the features and ease of use – simple to manage, upload documents, create and edit folders, download and view documents’’.

Operating within the NHS framework and coordinated by the Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult the centres will address the unique and complex challenges of bringing pioneering advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs) to patients. It was decided that Nucleus would be used as a sharing platform to allow colleagues from all of the partners included in the consortium to view, share and collaborate on documents and communicate from one single compliant environment.

‘Nucleus has had a great impact on the iMATCH and SAMPLE projects that I lead. These are large consortia each with 10 or more partners working to scale-up activity in the field of Advanced Therapies. Nucleus allows us to share and update documents in a really efficient way incorporating full version control. This is really valuable when working together on such big projects.’

Prof Fiona Thistlethwaite, iMATCH Director
